So what is it all about? Depends on your perspective doesn't it?
One way of looking at it is that I'm having a full on mid-life crisis. Lets see now...early 40's, 3 kids, want a bit more out of life and do a bit more before I get too old etc.....in other words I'm a walking cliché.
Another way of looking at is that I wanted to do this kind of thing for years! As a kid I grew up in India and left at age 15 when my parents moved back to UK for good. There was some talk about going back the overland way but unfortunately at the time the Soviet Union still existed and were in Afghanistan. Iran had just had the American hostage crisis and was also involved militarily with Saddam in Iraq. That meant the way wasn't clear. I have done a bit of sailing and always liked the idea of going to UK from my home here in Hong Kong on some mode of transport that wasn't air. So sailing could've been the way but is too expensive and far more time consuming and I would argue more dangerous (solo) than what I intend to do on the Enfield.
And that brings me nicely to the fact that as a kid I grew up in India and the only bikes around in those days were Enfields....all the flash Harries had them to wow the opposite sex; it was either that or a scooter. Then on top of that I met a man called Simon who had already done about 6 months across India on an Enfield and is passionate for old vintage bikes and I was fairly easily, although not quickly, persuaded of the merits of doing it on a 500cc Bullet.
So here I am, have Bullet can travel. First thing though is I need to learn how the machine works which means pulling it apart and putting it together again without any leftover bits and for it to all work again as before I started on it.
An amazing bunch!
